Cold Joints For Red Hot Mamas: Beginning Class - Class Description

Examples of the unique jewelry and components you can make with these skills.
Click on any image to view an enlargement.

This class will focus on using cold connections to join metals together and to embellish your metal components. You will learn how to make:

Basic wire rivets
Basic tube rivets
Screws and bolts
Staples
Sewing
Cotter pins

The following techniques will also be incorporated into the class:
How to rivet on a curved surface
The use of riveting blocks and other useful riviting tools
Developing a sequencing plan
Using measuring strategies to achieve accurate placement
Sawing, filing, and drilling sheet metal
Methods of texturing sheet metal

The necklace above illustrates jewelry that can be made with cold connections. Please note: Wire rivets, tube rivets, screws/bolts, and staples went into making the necklace. However, it also includes other cold connections that are taught in "Hot Mamas: Advanced Class". We will not be covering some of these more advanced techniques in this class - after all, who wants to get overwhelmed right at the start? You will not have time in class to make a necklace like the one shown above. A more reasonable expectation is to make a bracelet if you wish to complete a project in class. I generally am more focused on students building skills than finishing projects in class. If completing a project in class is important to you, please let me know so I can help you accomplish this.

Pre-requisites: Knowledge of basic wire skills would be helpful.
