Wire Tips

Vicky Brown shared a tip in class and it was so good I decided to start "Wire Tips" on the website. The tip below will allow you to know exactly how much wire is needed to make an eye pin of a specific size and with a specific gauge of wire. No more guess work! She will receive a $25.00 gift certificate for purchase of tools on the website. Congrats Vicki!

If you would like to submit your wire tip, please contact me at cfox@san.rr.com

Eyepin Templates by Vicky Brown

Start with 3" of 12 gauge Copper DS wire.

  • Make eyepin of desired size (eg. at base, mid point or tip of your particular pliers).
  • Measure remaining length of wire and subtracted that number from 3". This gives you the amount of wire you used to make the eyepin.
  • Measuring up from the end of your remaining wire, mark the length you calculated (see image below).

You now have a template for the length of 12 gauge wire needed to make that sized eyepin.

Repeat the procedure for each gauge wire and eye pin size that you
commonly use. (12,14,16 gauge are shown.) (see image below). The bottom template was made from 7" of 20 gauge wire for a double wrapped eyepin.

You can now string all of your templates together for easy access and
don't have to "reinvent the wheel" each time you want to make
eyepins!! (see image below).
