A note from Connie:
I recently spent time in Idyllwild with a very talented jewelry
artist named Diane Weimer. What I especially appreciate about
her work is her extraordinary skill with the jeweler's saw. Not
being one of my strengths, I pumped her for hints and realized
in the course of our discussion that many people would benefit
from her guidance. She will be offering classes in the future.
If you are interested in becoming great with the saw, please
contact Diane at: diaweimer@verizon.net.
You can also see much more of Diane's work

Here is Diane's workshop description:
I see people cringe when I say, "I love
to saw!" I go on to explain that it is because of the Smart
Vise. Like most, I had trouble holding down the metal so it wouldn't
vibrate as the saw frame moved up and down following my design
line. This tool has made all the difference as I create these
intricate pieces of piercework. The focus of this class is developing
intricate sawing skills. We will also be making a pair of earrings
with piercework as the central focus. Patterns will be available
if you want to use one of my designs.
In this workshop we will cover:
1) The use of the Smart Vise.
2) The use of the jeweler's saw frame.
3) What type and sizes of saw blades to use.
4) How to saw on the line without "wandering".
5) How to turn a 90 degree corner easily.
6) How to saw from the edge of the metal and
using a pilot hole to cut out an interior design.
7) Achieving a calm, "sawing" mind
set.
8) Ideal bench height and posture for sawing. |
