This 2.5 x 2.5” steel bench block is the only anvil you need for wire work. Anything heavier is less portable and takes up more space on your table. I prefer the heft of one that is 1” thick (some are ¾”). If you use a bench block pad under it the sound will be deadened and it will wander less on the table as you hammer.
