Ball Pein Hammer - Master Quality

The hammer I use most of the time to flatten and shape wire is the 4 oz. ball peen. I started out using a chasing hammer, but over time I found myself reaching for the ball peen. Here is why. This very high quality hammer is made in the USA by Vaughan, a company founded in the Midwest in 1869. The hammer head is hardened steel which is resistant to marring. If the face of your hammer is marred, it will transfer these marks to your wire. The handle is hickory, a spring hardwood that serves as a shock absorber. The wood of this handle feels good in the hand – I have three other ball peens of lesser value that simply don’t have a comfortable surface. And the last feature that I appreciate is the balance of the hammer. The weight of the head compared to the length of the handle is in perfect balance. Safety tips for hammer use: Manufacturers of hammers always recommend wearing safety goggles when using a hammer. Never use a hammer that has a chipped face or a split handle. A split handle can be replaced with another wood handle of equal value.
